Chapter 4
Who you are
Origin, core stats, skills and your two levels.
Origin
The moment you boot up, the city rolls your origin: which district you start in, what family you come from, which traits you carry and how old you are this year. Origins are far from equal, but every starting point has its edge. The Spires bring money and high affinity with the corps. In The Blocks, your Street Rep climbs fast. The Outskirts give you the highest Humanity and a way into the black market from day one.
Core stats
You have four core stats: Flesh, Humanity, Energy and Heat. On top of those come rep, implant load and your affinity with each of the four corps. What each one does, and how it goes up and down, is in the Stats and Humanity chapters. In the game, you can also open them from Stats under Me.
Skills
There are five skills: Tech, Combat, Social, Medical and Trade, each running from level 1 to 10. Skills decide which jobs you can take and how good your odds are on checks. Skill XP comes from tasks, study and Fate Cards.
Two levels
Your life level adds up how far you've come: your points come from all your skill XP plus your rep, every few levels you earn a new title, and each title unlocks a title frame (the formula and the titles are in the Quick reference).
Rep Lv is a different thing. It counts only rep, and it decides how many task slots you can open and whether the black market will let you in.
